The College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRPNS) – formerly the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS) was established in 1947 and is governed under The Registered Psychiatric Nurses Act, 1993. The Act sets out our mandate of protection of the public and identifies our regulatory responsibility:

  • To set standards for psychiatric nursing education
  • To maintain and enforce a code of ethics and standards of practice
  • To establish requirements for licensure
  • To set continuing competence requirements of its registrants
  • To receive complaints pertaining to registrants practice, conduct investigations, and take appropriate disciplinary action

Job Description:

The CRPNS is seeking a Nursing Policy Analyst. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer/Registrar, this position is responsible for the development/maintenance of policies that guide the work of the organization. The Policy Analyst will research and analyze trends impacting CRPNS and self-regulation, prepare reports and develop policies at the governance and operational levels. These include policies that support administration of the Act, registration, governance and executive expectations. With expertise in policy development, and professional self-regulation, this position requires a good understanding of the issues impacting the self-regulation of RPNs. This role is foundational in its contribution to our mandate of public protection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze trends and issues, identify and develop options and solutions, and make policy recommendations in order to meet organizational goals and mandate
  • Gather and analyze data and information to inform evidence-based policy developed and strategic decision-making
  • Research, prepare and draft governance and operational policies
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of policies and procedure documents
  • Analyze trends, using primary and secondary source data and prepare reports to support operational and strategic goals
  • The ability to accurately reference and interpret acts, regulations, policies, and guidelines
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners
  • Conduct environmental scans to identify trends impacting self-regulation,
  • Supports committees, working groups, Council and Council Committees
  • Liaison with a wide range of groups and organizations

Job Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in psychiatric nursing, nursing administration/leadership, social sciences, public administration, or a related discipline with excellent qualitative and quantitative research skills
  • Strong preference for those that hold an RPN designation
  • An appropriate combination of other education and experience may be considered
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary to draft policy and procedure documents, with well-developed presentation skills 
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Able to self-manage and is highly motivated
  • Proven ability to work with a high degree of independence
  • Team player
  • Sound understanding of health professions legislation and the public protection mandate of regulatory bodies
  • Must be proficient at conducting literature reviews, environmental scans coupled with excellent analytical skills and ability to analyze/synthesize information for the development of policies and procedures
  • Experienced at developing and managing relationships with key stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the psychiatric nursing profession and mental health delivery systems
  • Knowledge of psychiatric nurse education
  • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license
